BUWAN NG WIKA

We celebrated Buwan ng Wika with the theme "Filipino at Mga Katutubong Wika: Kasangkapan sa Pagtuklas at Paglikha. It was a half day celebration that marked the day of appreciation for our Filipino history.

Buwan ng Wika used to be referred to as "Linggo ng wika" with Linggo meaning "week". It used to be celebrated from march 27 until April 2, as a decree from President Sergio Osmeña. It was then changed to march 29- April 4 under President Ramon Magsaysay's, and then again to August 13-19. It was only in the year 1997 when President Fidel V. Ramos decided that the event should include the whole month of August, and thus changed the name of the celebration to "Buwan ng Wika" from "Linggo ng Wika". Currently, the Philippines observes "Buwan ng Wika" as the official name of the celebration.

As per year, students were seen clad in traditional Filipino costumes to celebrate the occasion Camisa de Chino, Barong Tagalog, and Barot Saya were popular costumes worn by the students. The school also had a number of performances. From dance numbers, to spoken poetry, to Filipino songs, these performances set the stage for Filipino fine arts to shine. Also, students were engaged in traditional Filipino games. Bato Lata, tayoko and the like were played to give homage to everyone's Filipino childhood. Unlike the past years, the program only lasted half a day. This was in line with covid protocols, wherein the school had to take appropriate changes to ensure everyone's health.
